A jet contrail was present near the Helix Spiral up to .38 on video. Then again, show the jet contrail later in the video in a series of snapshots. If the jet contrail was laid at the start of recording, it faded quickly as compared to the Helix Spiral. If so, why didnít both fade in roughly the same time frame? Why did it remain at nearly the same position for such a long time without dispersing?

I suspect that, the Helix was composed of different type of elements as compared to a jet contrail or cloud formation.

Here is the link for the weather on Dec.26, 2012 http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/UUEE/2012/12/26/DailyHistory.html?req_city=Moscow&req_state=&req_statename=Russia

Wind speed was about 14 mph. Seems a little fast for a shape to stay up.

Persistent contrails are a function of the relative humidity within the parcel of air that they are formed in. A segment of air different than most of the surrounding air may cause a contrail to persist, or to decay more rapidly, relative to the greater airmass within which it exists. A persistent contrail may exist just a few hundred feet above a layer of different air.
Contrails may go under such a layer, then up into it and then again down below it, or the airmass itself, if it's temperature is variable, may exist at differing elevations.

The contrail itself would seem to be two fighter jets dogfighting in a simulation, and they are doing a maneuver called a scissors.

According to my research on this, the double helix cloud formation is extremely RARE. And if you google up that term and switch over to "image" mode, it's clear that the one that showed up recently in Russia is by far the most defined formation of this type out of any of those images of that phenomenon on that page.

I think the synchronicity of the TIMING of the appearance of this formation is very auspicious. It's a sign from the gods...

I would think the dogfighting sonario is the most like reason for this, but I must admit, the numbers "training" in fighter jets all around the world, would have produced enough cloud formations like this as to be common place.

This is really the one I've been made aware of.

Are there any contrails that look like the double helix cloud formation the OP is showing here that were caused by what you and majicbar are describing?

Persistent contrails are in themselves rare, capturing contrails of dogfights are rare, contrails are not desireable in a dogfight, so photos of them should be also rare.

I'll ask my brother who was a Weapons System Officer in the F-4 Phantom if he has seen any while he was in service. Most of the engagements he had were by missile and not in dogfights so I don't know if he had any experience that is like that in this image, so I'll ask. Russian airliners are piloted by former fighter pilots, so this might have been just airliners having fun.

If you read over the first post in that You Tube page that the video is showing on, a student in meteorology said that the helix cloud formation is a natural one and he said to just google that up.
It's a rare phenomenon but if weather conditions are right, they do form naturally too, at least according to him
However, I'm not seeing any convincing photographs of that phenomenon that
match up to the perfection like what's showing in that video. The only one that comes close to it is another helix that showed up in Columbus, Ohio.
The ones made by fighter jets are very distorted and do not match up at all to what's in that video. One only
needs to google that up and see what those ones look like.

After a dedicated search I found what may be a(one) natural helix cloud formation.

The ones below are not natural IMO...

Pretty clear skies around there when this went down. I'm not so sure the one contrail in the area is related either...?

Now I'm not saying this is UFO related, just more then likely "man made".

It would be something though, if more of these started showing up around the world.

This link goes on to talk of the Moscow helix and later other contrails which are also somwhat like this helix over Moscow.

Great link! Thanks! A lot of good pics of spirals from all over the world. Fascinating! Reading it over now.

I skimmed it over but we are only seeing one POV on this in that link... that they are all contrails. I'm interested in finding out those other opinions out there on this phenomenon. Will check back here tomorrow after I look into that. ;)
