In 2008 the British government announced the release of their UFO files to the public.

Link to the MOD website (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos/).

Don't wait to long, the reports are only free a short amount of time.
The reports then transform to "pay" status.

New reports have been released chronologically by the MOD as they become available (redac).

Many older files are no longer available "free" on the MOD site, but a google search may reveal other UFO research sites that have them. I recommend looking around before paying for this material.

Interesting the alien is tip-toeing.

More to the point, I find it disappointing that an official government reporting agency would relegate an honest citizen's report to a form containing some comical caricature.

Difficult to think this information merited further investigation and research by the agency after seeing how little regard the physical report received.

For those of you that may have been putting it off, less than a week left to d/L for free (http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/) the remaining British M.O.D. UFO files.

Is the truth really out there?

Just a follow up on the stalled MoD Files release.

As many of you may remember, the MoD released hundreds of files at the National Archive website approx (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos/). 2011 to 2013. But, 18 top secret MoD files remained to be seen.
Researchers, backed by Lord Black of Brentwood, lobbied Parliament last year for release of the remaining files.

It was announced by Parliament, July of 2015, that the files would be release by March of 2016. Here it is, nearing the end of March 2016, and no files are in sight.

Your's truly contacted The National Archives for an update awhile ago, but the response, noted in a post somewhere above, was (paraphrased) "What files? We know nothing about new UFO files?".

I sent an eMail inquiry to Mr. Nick Pope, a retired MoD official and current UFO researcher, regarding the impending release. He was kind enough to reply.

CaliKid,

Thank you for your email. The National Archives (TNA) were being a little disingenuous in their response to you, because while - technically speaking - the files aren't "missing", they should have realized which ones you were referring to, in view of the extensive media coverage and public interest. In any case, I'm not aware of any recent update, and so far as I'm aware the position is this: the MoD had undertaken to redact the 18 files and send them to TNA "by March". This should now have happened. But TNA have previously said they are likely to need another 9 months to prepare the files for public release, so sometime around the end of this year remains the best current estimate. That said, if TNA forego the sort of proactive media release they've done previously for MoD UFO files, and simply put the documents online, they shouldn't need 9 months. So, realistically speaking, the files might be released anytime between now and the end of the year.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes,

Nick Pope

Our genuine thanks to Mr Pope, for his perspective on the matter.
Appears we will have to wait a bit longer for the release.

Good find, I'll keep an eye out.
No mention of a new UFO files release, in the National Archives' monthly newsletter. :ufo:

Last I spoke (email exchange) with Mr Pope, sounded like the National Archives had received the new MOD files last year, and was in the process of preparation (converting to PDF, etc.) for distribution via the National Archives website (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos/).

This article makes it sound as if the MOD has not even handed over the files yet.
If that is true, August might be a bit optimistic since the conversion process will still need to take place.
Of course it is a small batch, but seems like nothing happens fast when government bureaucracies are involved.

I was watching recent episodes of Ancient Aliens on The History Channel yesterday. One of the programs featured Nick Pope, among others. They mentioned that the last 18 remaining MOD files that had been released to the National Archives have been recalled by the MOD, and will not be released. This Includes the much anticipated Rendelshem files.
One reason Mr Pope speculated was "they don't want to panic the public".
Very disappointing.

Ancient Aliens "The Mystery of Rudloe Manor"
Nick Pope: "The MOD then recalled the files (the remaining 18Files). I have never heard of this happening before. To date these files remain under lock and key. So something very mysterious is going on."

We have a date; post election. Hopefully it will produce fruit.

Nick Pope;. "Rudloe Manor was the HQ of a unit know as the Provost & Security Services. Tied up with AF Security intelligence. UFO sightings were investigating by staff based here at Rudlow Manor. But for years we denied it.."

Can't help but wonder if they broke this story on Rudloe Manor to take the edge off of the impending release. Might be mentioned in the papers, now less impact since this episode aired. Wait and see.

What are they hiding? MoD finally releases UFO alien X-Files… but mystery three held back
THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finally released a series of former top-secret files on UFOs - but has prompted claims of a cover up after holding three remaining dossiers back from release.
By Jon Austin

UFO and alien truth seekers have been eagerly awaiting the release of 18 MoD reports into UFO cases, after a series of hold ups in getting them made public via the National Archives.

But, there are claims the truth still isn't out there after three of them were still not released, and officials appeared to make it very difficult for anyone to view the 15 others.

Instead of being placed online as many National Archives documents now are, the papers can only be seen by making an appointment with the Government archive service in London.

Or copies can be ordered for a fee online with several days wait before they they arrive.

Nick Pope, who worked in the department of the MoD which investigated UFOs until 2009 and now speaks at alien-related conferences across the globe, said there would be claims they had been "snuck out".

He said: "It seems that The National Archives has released 15 of the remaining 18 Ministry of Defence UFO files, marking the final stages of what's been a nine-year long project to declassify and release the MoD's entire archive of UFO files.

"Unlike all such previous releases of UFO files, I wasn't pre-briefed on the release date. The release of these final files has been extensively delayed and at one stage they were sent from the MoD to the National Archives, but then sent back to the MoD.

"Embarrassment about this delay may explain why - unlike releases of previous batches of MoD UFO files - there hasn't been a proactive media release.

"Accordingly, I suspect the UFO and conspiracy theory community will say that these files have been "snuck out'

"I think one has to pay for access, unlike previous batches, which were free for a month."

Isaac Koi already went and took photos or copies of them. But when asked about putting them on the Internet, he was told that 1) there would be a fee, and 2) he had to take measures that they could not be copied and distributed by third parties. So, basically, the guideline seems to be: copy for personal use is allowed, but not for public distribution.

Davis Clarke has looked at another one of the files...

https://drdavidclarke.co.uk/2017/06/30/ufo-files-exclusive-cold-war-spyplane-incident/

The release by Britain’s Ministry of Defence of 15 of its last remaining UFO files at the UK’s National Archives has revealed details of a stunning Cold War close encounter witnessed by the entire crew of a US Air Force spy-plane.

A RC-135 Rivet spyplane of the type operated by the USAF during the Cold War (credit: Wikipedia/USAF)

Formerly secret RAF files opened at The National Archives include a detailed account of an incident on 19 October 1982 when a USAF RC-135 plane, monitoring Soviet military activity, was buzzed by ‘a big object’ over the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to the files, British personnel at RAF Troodos, a remote base on the island of Cyprus listened in amazement to the radio calls of the American crew as the encounter unfolded at 35,000 feet above the sea.

The UFO – – described as covered in ‘a multitude of flashing lights 20 at a time’ – was picked up on the spylane’s radar as it approached from the south.

It then circled around the plane, call-sign Beano 73 – and closed in as the navigator appealed for help from the ground...

Sounds very unusual.
Public documents, paid for with tax payer money, AFAIK have always been considered public domain.
What they are describing amounts to a copyright.

The thing about Nick Pope is; he's a credentialed Government UFO investigator (retired).
When he expresses an opinion on the subject, it is not easy for anyone to dismiss him as a UFO Crackpot.
I can only imagine all the requests for appearances and endorsements he must receive. Guessing A LOT.
Asking for $$$ can be a way of slowing down the request, and a way to pay for travel expenses. Might seem unfair, but if he is going to forgo working a day job to pursue UFOlogy, IMHO seems only reasonable he is paid for his time. Whatever the market will bear.

They can be reserved (order in advance) for your viewing pleasure, onsite at the Kew location.
They can be "Ordered" (copies mailed to you (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/pagecheck/start/C16460003), for a price$)???
They cannot be downloaded.

I do NOT see a release covering December 1980, that would include the "Rendlesham Forest incident".

I think most people in the UFO community can spot a con a mile away. Afterall, there's been so many of them since way back when and they're all playing the same games anyway so that makes it easier to spot'em too.

I can understand where earthman is coming from but I'm with cal's opinion of Nick Pope. How many UFO researchers can say they actually worked at a gov't bureau that was set up explicitly for UFO reporting, research and analysis? He worked there for years so it's not surprising that he continued the same kind of work after he left that dept. And like everybody else, he's got to make a living to pay the bills so that means even charging for things that some may think he should simply grant as a favor. Favor's they wouldn't be requesting from him in the first place, if he wasn't Nick Pope.

Interesting development om the UFO docs released by the MOD

https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/982016/Operation-UFO-russia-alien-weapons-britain-secret-files-xfiles-david-clarke

...“Propulsion, stealth, and any novel electromagnetic technologies are of particular interest,” the confidential memos added.

But the report, by a senior air force commander, reached the conclusion that an enemy power may have already have a UFO in its grasp.

“Monitor all reports in case in the future the hitherto unknown/not understood underlying phenomena is being exploited by another nation,” he wrote.

“An actual – or potential enemy – could develop a flying device with the characteristics that these phenomena seem to have.”

Particular attention should be paid to any aircraft behaving like a UFO with the tell-tale signs of “high velocities, sharp manoeuvre, stationary ‘flight’, and few radar returns”, he added....

And they show it wasn't just the United States who were worried that the Russians or the Chinese might back engineer at UFO before they did so did the British!

All credit to Dave Clarke who trawled through the docs his analysis is here

The MoD File related to the 1980 Rendlesham Forrest/RAF Woodbridge/Bentwaters event.

As many already know, the British Ministry of Defense (MoD) release thousands of page, over several years, relating to UFO/UAP by way of The National Archives.
The story goes the MoD was tired of fielding the continued onslaught of FOI request for the information.
The cure? Declassify and get out of the UFO report taking business.
As a result, one of the many releases was specific to the Rendlesham Forrest event (including the Col. Halt memo).
Maybe I just didn't have the right Dewey Decimal Code, but it took me some time and effort to zero in on this file.
The report (in PDF) is some 200 pages, and 85Mb in size. I have pretty fast i-net, and it took me about 2 minutes to upload, so be patient if it takes awhile to populate in your browser.
Here it is, for your review:
