One of my favorite authors, Tom Clancy, has died. He was age 66.

Author Tom Clancy, whose novel, "The Hunt for Red October" propelled him to fame, fortune and status as a favorite storyteller of the American military, has died, according to sources with his publisher and family. He was 66.

The cause of death wasn't immediately available.

A Baltimore-born former insurance agent, Clancy was known for writing meticulous thrillers focusing on political intrigue and military tactics and technology. He published 28 books -- including a new novel yet to be released.

Several were made into Hollywood blockbusters, including "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games," and "The Sum of All Fears."

Seventeen of his novels appeared on the New York Times best-sellers list, according to his website. Many of them reached the No. 1 spot.

His writings also provided the inspiration for the "Rainbow Six," "Ghost Recon" and "Splinter Cell," video game series. Story Continues

It is with regret that we announce that Eileen Coly peacefully passed away in Manhattan at the age of 97 on November 18th, 2013. She served as President of the Parapsychology Foundation (http://parapsychology.org/) from 1970 until her retirement in 2011. She continued to share the founder, her mother Eileen J. Garrett’s vision for the Foundation which is to formulate a multi-disciplinary international approach to the study of psychic phenomena with an emphasis on scientific methodology and education.



Born and educated in England, traveling extensively with her mother the famed psychic and author, they were separated during World War II, during which she remained in England, surviving the London Blitz. Settling in the United States in l947 she worked at Creative Age Press and “Tomorrow” Magazine before joining the Parapsychology Foundation in l966. She is the recipient of the 2001 Parapsychological Association’s Outstanding Career Award “for her generous support and dedication to the science of parapsychology.”



With her French born husband, Robert R. Coly, now deceased she raised two children, Lisette and Robert Louis Coly. She is survived by her daughter, Lisette, who continues to serve as current President of the Parapsychology Foundation in Manhattan and Greenport as well as her son-in-law George E. Damalas and three grandchildren: George Robert Damalas, Anastasia Eileen Damalas and Robert Alan Coly. She has resided in Greenport since l990. In lieu of flowers donations in her name to: The North Fork Animal Welfare League, the Visiting Nurse Society of New York Hospice and Palliative Care and Parapsychology Foundation, Inc.

Dr. Leir was a brave and significant man. He was among the first to put his reputation on the line by going public with his findings and one of only a few who presented his findings to the Society for Scientific Exploration in France. I had the good fortune to meet him and shake his hand at the 2006 Laughlin UFO Congress where he had a booth next to Larry Warren of Rendlesham fame. Dr. Leir seemed like a quiet, competent, unassuming kind of guy who you were not going to have trouble believing. He is a loss to many who cared for him and to this field of study.

And now Lauren Bacall passes on at 89, one of the few people who had a life that was the "stuff that dreams are made of". Fashion model as a teen, actress who made a legendary film on her first try, icon, widow of Bogart, star of stage and screen by turns author, then senior Hollywood "been there done that" and discreetly told about it person. She had it all and did it all.

John Huston said that Bogart didn't fall in love with Bacall, he fell in love with the character she played in To Have And Have Not and that "fortunately, it was a part she could comfortably play for the rest of his life". I think the truth was more like she had pretty much played herself in the film but it made a great story for a legendary love and marriage. And here is what Bogart fell in love with:

PARIS (AP) — Philippine de Rothschild, an energetic and self-certain grande dame of Bordeaux wine who halted an acting career to run vineyards owned by the family dynasty, has died, her company said Sunday. She was 80.
She died Friday in a Paris "from the effects of a serious operation", winemaker Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA said in a statement, without specifying further.
De Rothschild, who cracked a male-dominated wine industry to become company chairwoman and was known by many as simply "The Baroness," understood the ups and downs of bearing one of Europe's best-known family names: As a girl in Nazi-occupied France, she used her mother's maiden name; as a professional actress, she took a stage name.
In a 1999 interview with French newspaper Liberation, she said: "When your name is Rothschild, everyone thinks you had an easy childhood."
Hers — during World War II — was not. Her father, a scion of the fabulously wealthy Jewish banking family, fled to England to join Gen. Charles de Gaulle's expatriate administration. She stayed behind with her mother Elisabeth, who believed that her Catholic religion would spare her deportation.
But in 1944, just two months before the Allies liberated Paris, the Nazis deported her mother to Ravensbrueck, Germany, where she died the next year. De Rothschild, in her comments to Liberation, recalled that she herself was spared deportation only because one German officer thought of his own daughter, who was about the same age, when he saw her. After the war, de Rothschild spent decades at the Comedie Francaise and elsewhere in the theater circuit, using the stage name Philippine Pascal.
When her father, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, died in 1988, she took control at the family business, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, later renaming it after him.
While the Rothschild dynasty made its name first in finance, the family's London branch ran the Chateau Mouton-Rothschild winery in France for five generations. De Rothschild expressed pride to be the first woman to run it.
Her father notably added innovation to an often staid industry by adorning drawings of artists like Picasso or Dali onto wine bottle labels. She continued the tradition: British artist Lucian Freud was commissioned to create the label for the 2006 edition of Chateau Mouton Rothschild — a wine that has been known to fetch thousands of dollars per bottle over the years.
In business, she used an actor's engaging demeanor. With a raspy voice, she was unafraid to speak her mind and was equally at ease in English and French. She had a penchant for thick earrings and heavy necklaces.
Mouton Cadet, one of the company's wines, is recognized well beyond the rarefied world of connoisseurs. She maintained Baron Philippe de Rothschild's Opus One venture with Robert Mondavi, an alliance of New World vigor and Old World knowhow.
"If I had the choice, I would have likened Philippine de Rothschild to Champagne. She flames up, she's joyous, she's frothy," wrote Paris Match reporter Philippe Tesson in a 2007 profile. "Destiny decided otherwise ... That's how Philippine became a Bordeaux."
Twice married, she is survived by two sons, a daughter and grandchildren. A funeral is planned Sept. 1 in southwestern Pauillac, said company CEO Hugues Lechanoine.

Leonard Nimoy lived up to his longtime catchphrase: Live long and prosper. Having achieved success in many arenas during his lifetime, the actor, director, writer and photographer has died at age 83. His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, reportedly confirmed his death to the New York Times, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Most widely known for his performance as half-human, half-Vulcan science officer Spock on the classic sci-fi TV show “Star Trek” and its many subsequent film and videogame incarnations, Nimoy was also a successful director, helming “Star Trek” pics “The Search for Spock” and “The Voyage Home,” as well as non-“Star Trek” fare; an accomplished stage actor; a published writer and poet; and a noted photographer. He also dabbled in singing and songwriting.

But despite his varied talents, Nimoy will forever be linked with the logical Mr. Spock.

A prominent person in Roswell recently died. He was buried before a lot of people even knew he was gone.
Glenn Dennis said he was one of the witnesses of the 1947 UFO crash near Roswell. He passed away on Tuesday and was laid to rest sometime this week.
While Dennis’ family has chosen not to come forward with the details of his death, KOB took a look back at his legacy.
He was a founder of Roswell's famous UFO Museum.
His claim to fame? He claims someone called him about needing sealed caskets.

She was 85. The versatile actress and vocalist was born Mary Ann Chase in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1930. She was adopted by the Whitney family, and as a teenager, began her career in entertainment as a singer and dancer.

It's often been said that the astronauts who walked on the moon, returned changed men.

I actually called a few local television stations, prodded them about Dr Mitchell's passing.
But saw no response to my "suggested news story".
Perhaps his aggressive views on UFOs have branded him a pariah with most MSM.
He will always be an American Hero in my book. :cool:

Keith was one of my childhood's personal heroes.
He inspired me (with the ELP inaugural "Dove" album tunes. The Moog on Lucky Man & the Piano work on "Take a Pebble") to take up keyboards/piano at a young age.
Piano, Hammond Organ, Moog Synth, he was one of the very best keyboard players & Composers of the 70's era.
His on stage theatrical antics were amusing, but his towering technical prowess was always the root of my admiration.

Not that I wanted this to happen but about fifteen minutes ago Prince's face flashed in my minds eye and it was covered with dripping blood. He was still alive at that point but he was gasping for breath.

It was with deep sadness we learned of the passing of TOP Forum Member, Edgar Fouche yesterday.
While the exact cause has not yet been revealed, it was no secret that Ed had suffered from ill health these past few years.

To say Edgar was an outspoken extrovert would be an understatement.
He was more akin to a force of nature, like the Sun, he radiated his opinions.
Goodness help you if you disagreed with him. ;)

Edgar served his country as a US Airman, and became well versed with everything Military that flew the skies before his retirement.
Much of his military training/certifications, such as avionics and cryptology, gave him a well qualified perspective when it came to evaluating Unidentified Flying Objects (Black Triangles, etc.).
He proudly/publicly displayed his career documents as proof of his qualifications.

Edgar also authored a thinly veiled work of fiction called "Alien Rapture".

Over the past few years Edgar promoted the special properties of "quasi-crystals", he noted much of the research was either classified, or conducted by interested large government institutions.

Edgar Fouche was something of a larger-than-life character. He added a unique perspective to the field of nuts-and-bolts UFOlogy, and will be greatly missed.

Too bad that information had to be publicized instead of remaining with the family but she still remains a hero in the mental health dept. For people who suffer from any form of mental illness, every day is a struggle regardless that they are on prescribed psychotropic medications for it. Some are more lucky than others because those meds are successful in keeping their illness at bay, but the same can't be said for the other half or more where those meds are, for the most part, ineffective... hence why so many stop taking them. And that's when they start to self-medicate again which appears to be the route Fisher went.

Nevertheless, she still deserves our respect because she put herself out on the front-line to raise public awareness on mental illness and was very successful in raising money on a continuous basis for research in this area. She will not be forgotten and will forever remain a princess in the eyes of many more to come for her efforts to make meaningful and significant changes in the mental health field. :)

The news didn't denigrate Carrie Fisher's memory for me.
We all struggle with inner demons.
IMHO, her death was more of a cautionary tale.
Trans-oceanic flights (UK to USA) are LONG.
Don't do anything that may cause need for medical attention when boarding such flights (excessive self-medication), because it might be a LONG delay (hours) for that ambulance ride to the Emergency Room for help.
Rapid transport can make all the difference, hence the red lights and sirens on emergency vehicles.
Unfortunate series of events. In an at home incident, she probably would have survived.

During the morning of May 18th, 2017, Jacque Fresco died. His last few days were spent with close friends and he worked on his vision for a better future until the very end.
The Venus Project was Jacque’s life work, a plan for using science and technology to create a world free of money, military, politicians, and war. It proposed an alternative to the current social and economic structure presently being exercised in our world, and offered an entirely new approach to solving problems.
Jacque maybe gone, but left us a vision for a better future. Perhaps someday, the world may look back and acknowledge him as one of the greatest minds of the 21st century.

Whenever I would see Martin Landau in the second half of his life, in movies, even though he was old and growing older, I could still see that young Landau from the 50's and 60's in him. He had that youthful vibe... that spark of life about him that never went away and you could especially see that shining through in his eyes and overall demeanor. He will be missed.

Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is dead at 66, CBS News has confirmed.

The legendary musician suffered a full cardiac arrest and was found unconscious and not breathing in his Malibu home Sunday night. He was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and put on life support, reports TMZ.

Petty rose to fame in the 1970s with his band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The group put out several hits, including "American Girl," "Free Fallin'," "Breakdown," "Listen to Her Heart" and more. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.*

Though Petty and his band debuted their first self-titled record in 1976, they continued to perform over the past four decades. Petty played his last show last Monday, performing three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl to conclude their 40th anniversary tour. The band wrote on their website that the tour included 53 shows in 24 states.*

In December, Petty told Rolling Stone that he thought this would be the group's last tour together.
He said, "It's very likely we'll keep playing, but will we take on 50 shows in one tour? I don't think so. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was thinking this might be the last big one. We're all on the backside of our sixties. I have a granddaughter now I'd like to see as much as I can. I don't want to spend my life on the road. This tour will take me away for four months. Petty, who released three solo albums and 13 albums with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, also took part in the 1980s supergroup the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne.

The rocker kept his hands full with his SiriusXM channel, Tom Petty Radio, as well. She was 80.

According to the official Star Trek website, Fontana died ... after a short illness.

Fontana is credited for writing many episodes of the original “Star Trek” series and was essential to creating the backstory and culture of Spock’s Vulcan heritage. Her credits include episodes like “Yesteryear” and “Journey to Babel,” which introduced Spock’s father Sarek and mother Amanda. Over his long acting career, two of his shows were favorites of mine.
I might have been in Kindergarden when I saw my first episode of Wild Wild West.
Set in the Old West under President Grant, James West was the hard fighting secrect service agent always ready to brawl with the bad guys, and when things got too tough he'd pull some SciFi gadget out of a secret pocket to overcome what seemed insurmountable odds. Amazing stuff to a youngster like myself.

A hard drinking veteran of the Flying Tigers in China transplanted to the South Pacific where he managed to whip a rag tag batch of misfit pilots into one of the best fighter pilot squadrons of WWII. Lots of Japanese Zeros "flamed" during the course of the show, sometimes with actual WWII video footage. Meanwhile on the ground, lots of booze, fistfights, nurses, and clandistine black market deals.
