It turns out that security and police dogs take cues from their handlers to induce searches that are uncalled for. In a clean room researchers were only able to have 15% of the dogs successfully pass the room as clean, 85% of the hits the dogs indicated were false. That is remarkable. The dogs "sit" when they have a "hit". Dogs sit often because they are tired, or bored, not only when they find drugs. But dogs also sit when they think the handler wants to have a "hit" which justifies a search. Many searches and subsequent seizures are uncalled for. The seizure aspect provides an economic incentive for such searches to enrich these departments. This is not good.
