Strangely. the accompanying photo is a daylight shot and the report is from 11:30 PM. :confused:

There were some fireballs reported on the East Coast last night (probably part of the Lyrids meteor shower) but the only one reported in NY was up in Buffalo. I don't think a fireball there can be seen in the Bronx.

Yeah. And the red light in that photo is a lens flare.

It is in part 'like' a lens flare, but it is not symmetrical with an axis drawn through the Sun and the purported object. Thus, this is not a reflection within the camera lens, which would be required of a true "lense flare". My suspicions are that this is a compound reflection: reflected back toward the Sun off the lens, unto a car windshield, reflected back toward the camera and then the image is taken by the camera. All the reflections are outside the camera.
