That is a great news and here is some additional material on that note.
In depth article about CEFAA was also written by Antoinio Huneeus titled "Ufology Goes official in Chile." It is published in July 2000 in the Fate magazine. Article talks about FIDAE 2000 - International Air and Space Fair that was held from March 27 to April 2, 2000. At the time, president of Chile, Ricardo Lagos, opened FIDAE. Inside the official program of the FIDAE, "UFO events" were also included - a closed workshop, and a two-day Symposium titled, "UFO: Analysis, Investigations and Perspectives for the New Millennium." The UFO workshop was organized by CEFAA with the logistic backing of DGAC (Chile's FAA). Fate's article goes in detail about conference and speakers.

I interviewed general Bermudez 11 years ago. This is a short excerpt what general Bermudez shared with me in an interview few months after the FIDAE conference back in 2000:

"The workshop had the general goal of “knowing the new theories, criterias and scientific tools applicable to the study of anomalous aerial phenomena”. The panel recognized that “the anomalous aerial phenomenon is real and the ufo incident is a more specific and rare event. The definitions, theories and studies so far undertaken have failed to solve the many unknows and the possibility of meaningfull progress in the study of the phenomena are greater now than previous times. The group finally makes an energetic call to international cooperation at the level of governments and institutions to contribute in the exchange of data and experiences, to strenght significantly the possibility of finding answers to the unknowns currently presented by the phenomenon."

Bermudez emphasized the need of international cooperation adding that CEFAA is processing an agreement protocol with French SEPRA (now GEIPAN) and NIDS (now defunct).

I think 'Disclosure' has already occurred in Chile 1derer. And I'm sure the details of that will be part of his talk. I can report back on this thread next month how it went for the people that couldn't make it to Phoenix.

I look forward to hearing about it Luminari, I for one won't be able to make it to Pheonix!...

However, I still find it strange that very little media has covered the Chilean incidents, to be honest this is the first I heard of either the General or these objects, I can't even dismiss them with the Chinese Lantern argument as they were at one stage flying in triangular formation, but I find it odd the a) Chile is the centre of the move to Disclose and b) These Chilean revelations have not been contained.

Do you know if contact of any sort has been made or are the UFO's just doing formation fly-by's? If they haven't made contact I would go with UAO (unmanned Aerial Objects) or Military craft...

Subject: UFO CHILE News - 7 Km UFO!!

Sorry for not posting in some time, but have been
very busy...

A little more than a month ago (May, 16,1998), in the
Location of Lake Colbun (200Km South of Santigo) a
disc shape UFO, dark (not black), with a big orange
light in the bottom (middle), and small lights that moved
around the outer part of the disc (part of the structure).
This UFO was so big that the witnesses said that "If it landed,
it would cover the hole valley", and the valley is about 7 Km wide.
This sighting lasted about 20 min. moving from North to South-East
at about 1000 meters (3000 feets) of the ground.
There are over 30 witnesses, including local police.
No pictures and no footage so far, unfortunately the sighting took
place over a big extensión of land, with very little population,
only farmers.

For your information, near Lake Colbun is Chile's biggest
Hidroelectric Plant. Local people say that they are having
strange sightings all the time (13 each month aprox.).
They call the UFO's "Robones" (stealers) because they say
that they steal electricity. Before this high tech power
plant they didn't have many blackouts (1 or 2 in a month),
but now they about 3 in a week. Not even the engineers of
the plant can explain this.
UFO's have been seen coming out of Lake Colbun, near the
high tension towers absorbing electricity, absorbing water,
and some of them even go at high speeds through the valley
towards the hydroelectric plant and vanish just a few hundred's
of meters before colision.

These are only a few of the strange stories that witnesses
talk about. Most of the sightings are done by local teachers
with their classroom and police officers also.

Subject: Massive UFO sightings in Chile

Looks like a massive arrival of UFO's is taking place here in Chile.

Last Wednesday (August 19) between 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. UFO's
were seen in 75% of Chilean terrotory (maybe more, yet to confirm).
>From the city of La Serena (North of Chile) to Coyhaique (far south
of Chile).

In La Serena a tall object like a building was suspended in the
air in the desert, the witnesses said that it had to rows of green
lights from top to bottom (aprox. 30 rows).
Also a couple traveling towards Ovalle (1 hour from La Serena)
saw a bright light in the sky. The UFO made a movement that
made visible it's long structure like a Cigar. This sighting
lasted about 30 minutes.

Over Santiago a disc shape was seen near place called La Florida,
in Pudahuel 3 objects were seen to.

In the cities of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar, a treiangular shape
UFO was seen.

Triangular and Cigar shape UFO's were also seen in the cities if
Concepcion, Talcahuano, Puerto Montt.

In Coyhaique, a military base saw a strange cloud moving against
the wind and it had internal lights blinking and flashing. At that
time in another close military base two small objects, one red
and the other green flew arround a hill four times before vanishing.
Here there were more than 100 military witnesses.

Most of these sightings lasted about 10 to 15 minutes.

Subject: From Chile - 400 meters triangular UFO

Just a few minutes ago a military friend called from Coyhaique
and told me that yesterday, Friday (August 21) night a
400 meters wide triangular UFO was seen by many people in
a region called "Cochrane" (100 KM south of Coyhaique).
Local police saw this UFO and got so impressed that they
are conducting an official investigation.

That same night near Coyhaique also, a military base while
doing night training saw a big ball of light fly over
them. As far as my friend knows two pictures were taken and
hopes to get copies of them soon.

Comercial Flight ???(to protect pilot) , May 23 1999
UFO sighting witnesses by flight crew and passengers.
The sighting started over Puerto Natales, there was
no radar contact with the UFO. The commander invited
some passengers to the cabin to have a better view of
the UFO.
The Commander then contacted the control tower which
had a visual contact on the UFO and it's movements.
All the radio contact between the aircraft and control
tower was recorded on tape.
Sighting lasted aprox. 30 min.
This case is being investigated by the UFO group AION =

Subject: Chile - Pear Shape UFO

UFO sighting, June 12, 1999. In the location of Parral.

In the town of "El Fiscal", near the channel El Fiscal
aprox. 60 witnesses saw for about 1 hour (11:30 PM to 12:30 AM)
a pear shape UFO, 20 meters in diameter, with porthole, suspended
about 25 meters above ground over their houses.
The UFO moved slowly over the roofs of their houses, materializing
and dematerializing itself in front of everyone. Local police are
part of the witnesses.

The UFO group AION is investigating this case.

Date: Tue, 22 Jun 1999 21:47:51 -0400

Monday 31, 1999. 11:30 PM, Coihaique, sector of Cerro Negro.
Two rabbit hunters saw 2 orange balls of light flying very
low (700 meters) and in a very erratic way (Zig-Zag).
One of the hunters signaled the UFO with it's hunting light,
and in response one of the UFO's came towards them. In that
moment the two hunters dropped everything and ranaway as fast
as they could.

That same night at the same time, my military friend Rodrigo Bravo
with another officer heard and saw an airforce Twin Otter aircraft
that flew 3 times over Coihaique at very low altitude.
The strange part is that there are no airports in Coihaique and
it's operation base is in Puerto Montt (a few hundred Kms North).

The next day they heard about the UFO encounter of the hunters, so
they strongly believe that the airplane was following the 2 UFO's,
maybe by radar....

Subject: CHILE - Military Report!!!

Last Sunday June 20th, 1999 at 8:30 PM a married couple that live and
look after the land that belong to the Chilean military, reported a UFO
sighting. The land they occupy is called "Predio Backer" near the Backer
River, 4 Km from the border point "Paso Roballos" and a few Km's from
the city of Cochrane (were last year a 400 meter triangular UFO was =
seen).

This couple reports 3 times a day to the "Centro de Telecomunicaciones"
of Coihaique military base, were the following report was obtained from.

That Sunday night they saw 5 luminus objets fly over their house in a=20
linear formation (O O O O O) separated 3 mts from each other, heading
South.
About 300 mts from the house they stopped. Four of the object merged
into one lighting up the entire sky. The fifth object remained static.
Both of the object started moving very slowly from their position to
a nearby hill called "La Meceta" (it took them about 7 min.).=20
Once over the hill, the 5 objects separed in all directions, to gather
again in a line formation (O O O O O) and left heading to the city of
Punta Arenas.

The entire signting lasted about 14 min. aprox.
The sky was clear.
During the sighting, they tried to call the police in Cochrane by
radio so they could also se the UFO's. But it was impossible from
them to comunicate. Once the UFO's left they could establish =
communication.


The GOOD part,

Thank's to military officer Rodrigo Bravo from Coihaique military base =
who
ordered that this report to be stamped on the "Libro de Novedades"
(daily Event book) of the military. So this is the first official case
as far as I know that a UFO sighting is registered officialy.
In normal circumstances this sighting would not be registered.=20
But Rodrigo Bravo is a good friend of mine and he is very interested
in UFO's. So he thought it was time to make a change hoping this
would make the militaries take a more serious and opened attitude about
the UFO issues. Let hope it works.
