infinite amount. Time slips through moment upon second into eternity

future. Humans perceive themselves as bound up in time as an insect in
amber. Forever imprisoned and forced to reconcile with the regularity
and inevitability of change. The past is gone -- the present, fleeting
-- and the future is unknown.

Several years ago, I was walking through a park near my home. This park is the last natural woodland in Manhattan and I took a route I had never walked before. Suddenly, off to my right, I saw a man running through the woods. I stopped to watch him full on (not out of the corner of my eye). He appeared to be Native American but wearing 17th century European clothes and he kept glancing over his shoulder with a terrified look on his face, as if he was being chased. After a few seconds, he was just gone. He appeared so real even his shoulder length, shiny, black hair moved in unison the way hair does when it has just been cut. What I did notice that told me he really wasn’t physically there was, that there was no sound. Even though he was running on ground covered with broken tree branches, I never heard one crack.

I don’t know what happened but I don’t think I physically transported back in time (mostly because there was no sounds). Perhaps I was able to take a peek into a past event of the park (I know of at least one brutal Native American/European battle in the area). Or, maybe it was even a ghost. An organizer for a local paranormal group told me that what I described was a very good example of seeing residual energy of an area. Whatever it was, it was a really cool experience.
