Has anyone had experience with hypnosis for retreaving memories or dreams or perhaps past life information?
Also, any exercises one can do to be a better subject? I'm a lousy subject and need to improve.

I was a Navy Medical Corpsman during the Vietnam Era. When I was going through Field Medical School at Lejeune, I had a hometown buddy that was a Marine in the Psych Ward at the Naval Hospital. He was suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder before we knew what it was. I was asked to sit in on a couple of hypnotic regression sessions to help keep him calm. This was done by using a quite room with low light. I would get my friend thinking about something fun we did as kids to help clear his mind. The Therapist had him stare at a fixed object, then while using a calm monitone voice, talked him into a hypnotic trance.

The trick is getting your mind to a happy place, then just concentrate on the voice of the Therapist.

So, I gotta find my happy place, lol I was a psych major in college and was lucky enough to have as my major professor a man that was the therapist for the north Texas FBI district and Police. He did psych evaluations and testing as well. One of his tools was hypnosis. I was impossibly curious and asked to try it one day and so we gave it a spin. After trying an hour he realized I was one of those people that is very hard to get in to a hypnotic state. All the usual tricks failed. This was at least 40 yrs ago.

Another professional hypotherapist tested me and said oh yes, you are not very suggestible at all. He could not get me there either. So, I need to work on myself for a while to relax and give over some trust so when I try it, I can say okay, I am comfortable here.

But another question I have is how do you know you are in that state and that the information forthcoming is genuine and no your imagination ??

I read Bruce Goldberg's book on "Self Hypnosis" and it taught me how to go into a trance state and contact with my higher or inner self, and now I can contact it whenever I need to answer questions over which I'm conflicted and unsure of what to do.

You can train yourself quite easily by using your hand. Think continuously about the positive, the answer being yes, and tell your higher self to choose a finger to flex as an answer to all further questions you may ask of it, then do the same for no, and again for unsure. You have to let your higher self choose and interact with it as you would if you were talking to God. Surround yourself in positive energy before doing the exercise. Your hand should become trained and you should be able to find the calm and control that it should bring to you. Try to get into that state whenever you want reliable answers, no thinking, just ask questions and you should find that you can trust your answers.

As an aside, I found that I could go to the casino and get answers to which machine would play out on the slots within 3 pulls. I was using this as a training exercise and not to get rich. I eventually found I could trust it and when I was no longer connected. It got bored with the exercise, I think. I don't play any longer, just because what is the point. I got much greater wealth in finding my inner self.

Hello Southerncross,

Self-hypnosis is ok but there are more gizmos out there now which can put you in the mood you so desire which is really mind boggling to say the least. Biofeedback is one of those methods, which is somewhat old school with today’s technology, but it will enable you to utilize your brain waves for a desired effect.

There is fairly cheap software out there which you can hook up to your computer and then to yourself to learn the manipulation of brain waves thru the biofeedback method which can help you achieve the desired effect which you so desire. One of the cons of bio feedback is there is a learning curve involved so you must have a desire and willpower to achieve your goals which might be too time consuming for the average person in today’s fast pace world of instant gratification.

The link below is just an introduction to biofeedback and I am not endorsing the institute.

I also do have professional experience with hypnotizing subjects for memory retrieval and I was putting people in hypnotic trances since I was a young teenager of 15 years old, though not professionally as I do today. As a disclaimer I have not used hypnosis for the last 5 or 10 years or so, I do have other more radical techniques I use to achieve goals of the more radical type subjects.

Thanks atmjjc, I like the idea of bio feedback. I am sure it takes time to develop the focus needed, but it would be worth exploring. What I would like to do ultimately is be able to place myself in a proper state of mind so that when I fall asleep, my mind can access previous lifetimes, or reach in to the future to clarify things I suspect but need more information on.
Lastly, having seen and communicated with those that have passed away, I'd like to develop that. It has always occurred spontaneously and I have no control over it. I'd like to build more control to that gift.

Will do Casper. Thanks.

Many reasons to do so. Not just some esoteric work, but also learning to control my blood pressure better.
Yesterday in the Texas heat, I felt bad, came in and took my pressure and it was 109/53. Felt like I was going to faint.
Now I understand why.

After glancing over your new thread "Precognitive dreams and thought"and considering what you want to achieve you might want to check into this apparatus which is a lucid dreaming tool. I will also put the link into your precog thread.
