Privacy is a big deal. Are you serious?

Your privacy IS important to us.

But you must read it in the right context: it has to do with the texts you write here.
There may be circumstances where we need to disclose personal information because of that.
Say you start making libelous claims.
In that case we may have to reveal your email address to relevant authorities when asked to do so.
That clause makes sure we can do so.

Rest assured that we're not here to make personal information public. On the contrary.

But that clause needs to be in there for those rare occasions where it may be necessary.

Hi, Clarence. In addition to what Garuda wrote above:

We don't have any personal information about you nor do we have any interest in acquiring any personal information about you. The Terms of Service Section 6 you quote refers to copyrights. If you make a false claim we are not obligated to protect your email address as Garuda wrote. It also means that if you submit a signed article we are allowed to publish your name for attribution.

This is standard stuff. Every website that accepts comments has some version of this language. We just show it publicly so you and anyone else can read and understand it. If you have ever commented anywhere else you probably agreed to that language without knowing it. If the website doesn't the use the terms of service the service provider of the forum does.

Bottom line: We only know what personal information you tell us about yourself. You have told us nothing. Only you can change that. We are content with that.

Cheers,

Doc

Every internet security article I have read suggests that it is a mistake to ever assume privacy on the internet. There are many articles available that suggest strategies to protect yourself. I hope you know about such advice and make use of it. It is very important.

I don't use this, the concept was developed by the US Navy originally, i think, nowadays it is used by rape and abuse victims and probably (ironically) by kidde-porn downloaders :
