Westall, Melbourne Australia's best mass sighting 1966

Just came across this at ATS:
    Can't recommend this strongly enough.

At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were just completing sports on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer shaped craft with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, was alleged to have been seen. Witness descriptions were mixed: Andrew Greenwood, a science teacher, told The Dandenong Journal at the time that he saw a silvery-green disc. According to witnesses the object was descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). After a short period (approximately 20 minutes) the object - with witnesses now numbering over 200 - then climbed at speed and departed towards the north-west. As the object gained altitude some accounts describe it as having been pursued from the scene by five unidentified aircraft which circled the object.

Had never heard about it before it's a stunning documentary good enough to show the skeptic. There was definitely a coverup involving Australia Air Force and others but so far on has spoken out.

This is a bit of a shameless plug to reinvigorate this thread but this might well be in the top 5 of best documented UFO landings.
Shane Ryan's film is a must watch for anyone interested in UFOs.

A UFO-themed playground has opened at The Grange Reserve in Kingston

FLYING saucers have returned to Westall, but this time there's a lot more fanfare.
A UFO-themed playground has opened at The Grange Reserve, site of the 1966 flying saucer sighting.
Kingston Mayor Paul Peulich officially launched the $300,000 redevelopment, including the spaceship shaped jungle gym, in front of a crowd that included some witnesses of the original sighting.
Cr Peulich said it was a great amenity to help attract "visitors of a terrestrial kind" to Kingston. Children were treated to alien face-painting, and students from Westall Primary School were let loose on the new playground.
A sign has been erected, telling of the incident in 1966 when more than 90 people, including a school class playing cricket, reported seeing flying discs hovering above or landing on the reserve.
Shane Ryan, who made a documentary about the incident, said the new playground was a recognition of "the landing" and the effect it had on the witnesses and the area.
"But this is turning all that on its head and making it a place of enjoyment and recreation and it's saying to people that no matter what happens to you in your life, you should be able to talk about it," he said. His film Westall '66: A Suburban UFO Mystery, which was first broadcast on the Australian Sci Fi Channel in 2010.

There is a web page for those involved that day and a Facebook page dedicated to the incident, too.

WOW!! Thanks for posting this Longeyes.

I have viewed some of the Westall66 youtube videos on this and it is absolutely astounding. There are over 90 eyewitnesses to this event in 1966 in Australia just outside of Melbourne. There was an injured child taken away by ambulance never to be heard of again. Witnesses threatened by the government and cameras confiscated as this would be photographic evidence. It was reported in the newspapers and there were interviews done at the time and when one researcher looked for the film of those interviews he found the film canister but with missing film inside.

There may be another side to this story that has not been reported but this IMO is an obvious cover-up of gigantic proportions.

This should be easy pick ins for any competent investigative reporter. They could find out who is stonewalling this and start naming names. So far what I have seen most of the investigating reporting on this seems awfully amateurish.

Unfortunately, by now, the video is no longer available for 'copyright violations'

Yeah the guy who made the film I think was a ex pupil and it was mostly his work.
That many witnesses on film saying the same thing it's very hard to deny and sweep under the carpet

Australia government papers have been found implying this could have been a HIBAL. An atmospheric balloon used to measure radiation from nuclear tests.

Actually they should know what it is since they confiscated a camera with film from one of the teachers who took pictures of the incident. A HIBAL is just a cover up. I am glad that this incident is starting to be taken seriously for them to come out and say it was a weather balloon.
