Gary McKinnon and the hack of the century

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_McKinnon

Gary McKinnon (born 10 February 1966) is a Scottish[1] systems administrator and hacker who was accused in 2002 of perpetrating the "biggest military computer hack of all time," although McKinnon himself...states that he was merely looking for evidence of free energy suppression and a cover-up of UFO activity and other technologies potentially useful to the public.

Gary watched the 2001 Disclosure Project National Press Club conference testimonies and decided to look for the evidence himself.
He claimed the administrator passwords on most of the computers were unset making it very easy to create a backdoor and then daisy chain from computer to computer. He only had a 56Kb modem. The security must have been virtually no existent.

He found two bits of crucial evidence:

The first was a list of transfers for non-terrestrial officers aboard ships that were clearly not naval ships.

The second was verification of something Donna Hare, an ex NASA, claimed in he Disclosure Project Testimony. She alleged that she went into Johnson Space Center's Building 8 where a colleague showed here images, before and after UFOs had been scrubbed out before showing to the public. Donna was a member of a Houston Contactee club and had made it known that she was interested in UFOs will working at NASA and that is how the incident came to take place.

Gary managed to hack his way, along a string of computers until he got into a console in Building 8 where he claims he found two folders marked something like Unfiltered and Filtered. He saw one craft clearly above the atmosphere which was no of this world.

This is a great interview by Project Camelot of Gary the one used in the recent Hangar 1 UFO Files S01E06 Space Weapons

    Project Camelot interviews Gary McKinnon

It took years of campaigning to get finally get Gary's extradition over turned and the experience was taking it's toll.
Many claimed that he had damaged hundreds thousands of dollars worth of Naval computers but there is no real evidence of that if anything he just highlighted there very poor security. That cost them a great deal to fix.
Pretty much as Gary decided to download the filtered and unfiltered images from NASA he got caught. At one point there was a list floating around the internet of the space craft. But it disappeared never to be found again if anyone could dig it up that would be a great challenge. I think his genuine motives make him a hero but other disagree.

Great article on Openminds TV fprm Apr 2010 which mentions the ships names, photos at link.

In what US prosecutors have called the biggest military hack of all time, Scottish hacker, Gary McKinnon says it was all done in an effort to end secrecy regarding UFOs and Free Energy technology. McKinnon has been accused of hacking into computer systems belonging to NASA, the US Army, US Navy, Department of Defense, and the US Air Force. He is fighting extradition to the United States to be held on trial, and if extradited faces spending the rest of his life in prison, but were his efforts in vain, or did he really find something?

In all of his interviews, McKinnon talks about two UFO related finds. He told the Guardian newspaper that he thought what he found was so important that he tried to barter with the government. When first caught he was offered the chance to take a plea bargain and get a three to four year sentence. He turned the offer down to get a lesser sentence, threatening to release everything he found if they didn’t give him a better deal. Unfortunately for Gary, the US government wasn’t too worried about his revelations. Now he faces spending a 70 year sentence in a US prison, where they don’t serve tea and crumpets.

McKinnon was inspired by physician Dr. Steven Greer’ Disclosure project. Greer had brought together a number of very credible witnesses to testify in front of the Washington National Press Club that they had knowledge of the existence of Extraterrestrial visitation and that it was being hidden from the public. One of the witnesses said they knew that pictures from space were being altered at NASA’s Johnson’s space center; UFOs were allegedly being taken out of pictures.

McKinnon hacked into Johnson’s systems and said he found a high definition picture of a large cigar shaped object over the northern hemisphere. He said that he was so shocked by the picture that he didn’t think to immediately save it. He also said that the file size was so large that is was difficult to view it on his computer. Eventually his connection was lost, and so was the picture.

The most shocking find to McKinnon, the one he thought would be his ace in the hole negotiating with the US government, was what he found hacking into the systems of US Space Command. McKinnon says he found a log that listed non-terrestrial officers. He doesn’t believe that these were aliens, but he believes this to be evidence that the US military has a secret battalion in space. Some of these logs were ship to ship transfers, but he says he was usually smoking pot when he hacked, so that prevented him from remembering the names of the ships. McKinnon told the Gaurdian: “I was smoking a lot of dope at the time. Not good for the intellect.”

There are rumors that he has talked about the names of two of the ships he saw on the transfer logs, the names of the ships being the USSS LeMay and the USSS Hillenkoetter. Typically Navy ship names just have two S’, an acronym for United States Ship, however there are three S’ here, presumably standing for United States Space Ship. The names of the ships are also significant.

General Curtis LeMay was friends with retired Air Force Reserve Major General and former U.S. Senator from Arizona, Barry Goldwater. Goldwater believed there was a UFO cover-up deep within the government, and suspected that his friend LeMay knew about it. There were rumors that there was UFO evidence being held in a secret room at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base called the blue room. Goldwater told the media several times that when he asked LeMay about this room, LeMay got upset and told him, “Not only can’t you get into it but don’t you ever mention it to me again.” Open Minds magazine will have an article going more into depth on Goldwater in the second issue.

The second ship’s namesake, Admiral Roscoe Hillenkoetter, was the first director of the CIA, and was also a member of a UFO research organization, the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). In 1960 the New York Times reported that Hillenkoetter had sent a letter to Congress that included this statement: “Behind the scenes, high-ranking Air Force officers are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense.”
    Admiral Hillenkoetter (credit: USN)

    Admiral Hillenkoetter (credit: USN)

Although Hillenkoetter fought for the end of UFO secrecy, he eventually stopped commenting on the matter. Alleged secret documents that were leaked to UFO researchers, list Hillenkoetter as a member of the infamous Majestic 12 group, an organization rumored to have been made up of high ranking military officers and civilians that was supposedly created by President Truman to initially manage the UFO issue.

However, the fact that McKinnon really released the names of these ships is also alleged, thus far there are no source for these rumors.

So that is it, the UFO picture that McKinnon saw and the ship rosters were all he had, and unfortunately for him, they were not enough to scare the government into going easy on him. Instead he has been fighting a long multi-year battle to keep from being extradited to the US, a fight that he is losing. So far every British court he has appealed to has denied his stay.

The US government is really throwing the book at him, alleging that he took down military computers making the US vulnerable soon after 911. McKinnon denies those claims, and says that he was able to observe many hackers from around the world accessing the networks he was on at the same time he was on them. Many believe that McKinnon may just be a scapegoat.

The search for truth on the UFO matter is a difficult one, and some may argue that the secrets being kept are illegal. However, taking illegal steps to get to the truth is ill-advised, and unfortunately McKinnon is learning this the hard way.

Found the earliest incidence on the net of the ship names comes from here

    http://projectcamelot.org/lang/en/bo..._aware_en.html

A Project Camelot interview with Bob Dean so couldn't vouch for the validity of that information.

...Ah, but what did McKinnon download? Ah! Let me just touch upon a couple of things – orders, military orders, transferring a Commander from one vessel to another vessel. Now, the vessels were named USSS Curtis Lemay and the other vessel that this guy transferred to, this Commander, was the USSS Roscoe Hillencotter.

Now, Curtis Lemay, most of you are well aware, dead now, one of our top Four-Star Air Force Generals, who bombed Japan back to the Stone Age, practically, because he was Strategic Air Command. There is a vessel named the USSS Curtis Lemay and a Commander transferred from that to the USSS Roscoe Hillencotter.

Now, Roscoe Hillencotter is dead now, but he was a Four-Star Navy Admiral who was the first Director of Central Intelligence. Now, the guys, the researchers, have gone to the records and there ain’t no listing of vessels with those names in the entire US Navy Manifest...

Thank you for starting this, I would have done it myself...but having a new job and catering to the mrs. doesn't help the cause. LoL

I've seen a couple vids about Donna Hare, and a couple others who have came out with the exact same claims. In my mind, there is no doubt that there is some sort of "orbiting colonization" project going on.

This is another one I found to be interesting...

It has been discovered that mice and fish will if drunk be of two minds where they can learn and remember either drunk or sober and not remember when in the other condition. What if Gary were smoking and would again try to remember more of the information he saw. It might, or might not work, but might be worth a try. Perhaps hypnosis might help as it is helpful in multiple personality cases.

My problem with his story is that he never got a copy of that file. I don't think no matter how stoned he was that if he had come across that he won't have downloaded it. I sorry but that is the first thing you would do. With the photos he claims he was cut off diwnloading them. But the way Internet explorer worked in those days the thumbnails of all the pictures you were looking at were downloaded and stored in attic folders. Surely he would have has that because he claims he saw it the picture must have already come down the 56k line?

    Hypnosis is a great idea

There is every reason to suspect that the files were coded as "read only" with all copy and download functions disabled. One only rarely finds Internet sites coded as "read only", like Linda Moulton Howe's Earthfiles unsubsucribed pages, so it does not immediately come to mind. Restricted access government and corporate sites should be expected to be "read only" and only special software can capture displayed page files. The surprise here is that such files are accessable to the Internet at all, most sensetive material is restricted to Intranet networking which never goes outside the building or never outside a closed loop dedicated fibre network.

I doubt the actual computers he accessed in Building 8 were connected to the internet but others on the NASA intranet no doubt were - and that's how he got in. I doubt security would be anywhere near that lax now.
Maybe read only but what about the 'printscreen' button. That would be ample proof. Gary as a computer whizz would have known about that. If he couldn't download them a jpg of what he could see would have done. Does he still have proof somewhere? Seems unbelievable if he was searching for evidence of UFOs... finds it... then doesn't make a copy? Was it on his computer when it was confiscated? Surely something like that you would put on a disc and send to as many people you knew as possible.
But in my knowledge he has never said publicly that he has any concrete proof.

It is against security protocols to allow an Intranet computer to also be allowed access to the Internet. Any computer which has ports to both could be breeched, the DOD found this out early on and rewrote the protocols to be sure the systems did not cross. The only way he could have done this is if some idiot contractor like Snowdon had been lazy and attatched both Internet and Intranet cables to the same server. Security of such systems could be easily automated which means if this was the case of allowing crossed networks it should have been quickly caught and if not it is mismanagement to the utmost degree.

"Read only" if correctly done disables everything except porting display screen commands to the video chip. Special software can spoof the video chip and allow export to screen print and file saving commands. Also if determined photographs of the monitor can provide another bypass of the "read only" function of security.

or...He could have just taken a picture with a polaroid camera? And blaming pot for him not remembering how to gather evidence seems a little childish to me. Even if he was, "higher than a giraffes ass" he probably would have remembered to cut/paste onto a notepad template...any hacker worth his salt immediately has a place for his "prize" to be transferred to.

So...what we have is someone claiming to have all this information without a single shred of it...as far as the show says, his case was eventually dropped...?

Almost sounds like a diversion of sorts...
