I can't say much for their artistry, but its definitely an intentional earth image.

This poses the question; How many images of this nature were lost of passages of time to erosion, climate changes, volcanoes, earthquakes and whatever?

Prairie farmers plowed up numerous small glyphs and small burial mounds. There was a small time business of selling off the many small artifacts found after such destruction. Nature surely covers up these or erodes them away. The desert S. W. has many areas intact simply because it is a more benign and less inhabited. I image these glyphs survived because of sparce population and no agricultural impact.
