I finally found some time to put this together and I want to support what Majicbar posted. Good work Majicbar!

If given the photo and asked to find the object… it is not an easy task since the object blends well into the background.



Taking a look at the Martian surface in this area, there are a number of features which are helpful when identifying features on the surface. The first feature is the large crater in the upper right section of the photo. The topography of the crater shows us where the Sun is located, so that we may identify light and shadow. Notice, the floor of the crater contains “sand dunes.” As dust storms blow across lower areas (like craters and across the narrow width of the valley), some of the “sand” will drop out of the atmosphere and rest on these “low areas.” When the blowing wind follows the valley or depression, dunes will be formed (which looks like waves traveling down the valley).



This is the object in question (in the center of the red box). Without rotating the photo, or enhancing the color of the area of the object, it is not so startling or convincing as to being a crashed saucer or a building. Let’s look closer:



The object does not show any topography as being an actual structure (it does not cast a shadow… as in being an upright standing object or building).



I have traced where the “sand dunes” actually overlay the area of the object in question, which means the object is not as "tall" as the dunes themselves. Compare this to the other photo above.
