Thread: Windows 10 Upgrade

Further update: if you are using an NVIDIA graphics card, and you are using the latest drivers from NVIDIA itself, instead of the default windows drivers, you may experience problems as Microsoft wants to install and use its own drivers instead, and moves the NVIDIA drivers to the windows.old folder.
I had to reinstall the NVIDIA drivers manually.

I recall this issue. Very frustrating when WIN7 update would run 12 hours, and if you were lucky it might finish.
They did issue an "update client" patch back in 2016. Read about it here.
When I downloaded and installed KB3138612 from Microsoft's website, it seemed to resolve the issue.
If you get it, be sure to d/L the correct x32 or x64 version.

Still not working. Microsoft has been of any help.

My Lenovo laptop installed the upgrade too, and it now is experiencing major trouble. Every so often, the screen first turns black, then white and then it hangs.

Just a reminder the free WIN10 upgrade ends Dec 31, 2017.

I've had quite a rush of ppl upgrading WIN7 and WIN8.1.
Free for another week, then $100-$200, depending on flavor.

The WIN10 "Early 2018" Spring Creator's Edition update is available.
    Redstone 4.
    Windows 10 v.1803 (I loaded v1803 with OS Build 17134.1 last night).
    So far error free.

The download is about 4Gb. Run as update, or load onto media (single 4.7DVD or an 8Gb Flash drive).
    Download DIRECT FROM Microsoft.

    Some of the new features.
TIMELINE. Track your work flow, pickup where you left off.
Diagnostics Data Viewer (have a look at data being sent to MS).

Long day. Just finished roll-back to 1709 version

after updating, had multiple USB device failures.

    SATA controller failed
    USB WiFi adapter failed
APC battery backup USB connection failed
Logitech HD webcam (less than 6 months old, with March 2018 drivers loaded) failed.

In addition, Hyper-V's Virtual switch failed.
    TPM v2 logging errors.
and an unknown "USB DEVICE LINK (Link in compliance mode)", error.

Tried to trouble shoot, mostly insuring latest drivers loaded.
    Multiple reboots, no joy.
All issues resolved with roll-back to prior WIN10 version.

    ---------------------------------------------------

I have a fairly new system, maybe 2 years old (WIN10 drivers aware/included) with Hi-end/hi-performance parts.
i7 6700k running 4.5Ghz, 16Gb DDR4 ram, 512Gb SSD HD, additional WD 5Gb SATA3 data drives, High end Gforce Video card, Gamer's MB with USB3, USB3.1, Thunderbolt, etc. NOT an old system with driver issues, and I'm still having problems.
Looks like I might have to wait awhile for this update.

This latest update is a complete and utter disaster...

No communication is possible anymore between computers that were part of the same home group, after MS removed the home group... They don't even find each other in the network: "The resource cannot be found."

    I don't have a network anymore.
