Right-click on the News and interests entry on the Windows 10 taskbar.
Select the News and interests entry on the menu that opens.
To disable the feature entirely, select "turn off".
You may alternatively reduce it to an icon-only display.
You may also select "reduce taskbar updates".
I had a similar issue with a new Android phone. I kept turning off news stuff, then a couple days later it was back-on. Finally got it to stay off...

The new one, was high powered but had windows 10 on it, so l tried it over the weekend and after trying system restore and undoing it with a blue screen appearing realized it was rubbish and put Windows 7Pro back on.

So 7Pro, more than 4 years, no updates at all, Abode Suite purring, and OS purring, (apart from the customized icons, misbehaving).

Don't listen to so called experts sqarking on about security updates, XP, and Windows 7, are extremely well build, and only need a good antivirus.

Just last week, Colonial Pipeline reportedly paid a ransomware group close to $5 million to decrypt locked systems.
Cannot help but wonder what software/versions they were running, that enabled this vulnerability?

    Had to have been 10.

I think there are a lot of older systems out there tied to specific industrial machinery.

Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, released on April 25, 2005, was (is) used in a lot of CNC control codes for post processing. It was versatile and flexible. Able to be use to convert CAD/CAM drawings to G-codes in proprietary fashion.

    Found a nice history list:

    Interesting reading.
Windows 11 is coming – Here’s everything we know about Microsoft’s next major software update.
Soon, Microsoft is going to launch what it’s calling “the next generation of Windows”. All signs point to it being called Windows 11. While Windows 11 is getting a full version bump when Microsoft said it was going to use “Windows 10” forever, that’s not the only reason it’s the next generation of Windows. This is a major, major change. It’s representative of a big shift in how Microsoft delivers Windows, but it’s also a big UX overhaul as well. Here’s what we know so far!

I would strongly recommend postponing today's patches. They crashed the two computers (one PC, one laptop) that they installed themselves on.
Both got stuck during the installation after rebooting...
I suspect it may be a conflict with malwarebytes software.

Not yet. It is available on 2 of my computers as well.

THe update dropped off my "optional update/features" update list.
Made my heart skip a beat, for a moment thought it had autoloaded.
But I am still at 20H2, seems Microsoft may be pulling back 21H1.

Just installed it on the old laptop. Downloaded and installed in no time. (was actually faster than last week's patches).

So far no problems (or actual changes) detected.
