Best of my knowledge, Cuba does not have nukes.

    An excellent question.

Officially, we (US Military Forces Japan) didn't have any nukes in Japan back in the 80's...unofficially...

Often, when (even just) "nuclear capable" ships pulled in, masses of Japanese (nationals) protestors would swam the piers or often try to block entryway in the channel with their small fishing vessels. I watched the crew of (IIRC), the USS New Jersey blast through a mass of protesters's boats using a massive water cannon.

The truth, however, was quite different. It was (yet another) "open secret" that US nukes were all over Japan. Anyone who's seen the railroad tracks around the far end of the base in Yokosuka knows what they're used for...everyone knew that most all of the (ammo) tenders in port carried at least a few...the "Boomers" (SSBN's), all were filled with 'em and most all of the Tomahawk-capable had at least one or two in the hold.

While the country of Cuba may (no longer) have nukes, I'd be quite surprised if GITMO or a ship in port or nearby didn't.

I heartily agree Longeyes, I'm most intrigued to hear him expound on his experiences.

You may recall an incident, back in the 1960s under JFK administration, called the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Officially a US naval blockade convinced the Russians to remove nuclear capable missiles (discovered by U2 over-flights) from the island.
Unofficially behind the scene sources say the US removal of like missiles from Turkey, convinced the USSR to remove them.
So, officially there have not been any nukes in Cuba since the 1960s.

    For Bob,

Thank you again for coming here and elaborating on your experiences at GITMO, IMO, sharing this is an act of great kindness as (again) IMO, it's much easier to 'forget' about it and keep it to yourself. Like you, I had a few experiences in uniform (USN "Amphib" vet), but, apparently unlike you, we couldn't speak a word of it let alone make a log entry.

I never made it to GITMO but I had a few friends who where stationed there at the Naval Comms facility and they spoke of the very high security and about strange goings on but never elaborating. It was very clear that they were happy to have left GITMO and they made it clear that they hoped to never go back.

I presume that you were part of the USMC security personnel there, or, perhaps the base USMC personnel had other primary assignments? Could you please tell me the unit strength? Company level, two Companies? Did you have "fast reaction" (REACT) teams operational or any special duties with regards to the Naval facilities (i.e., comm center, ops center, etc.)?

Remembering how diligent and ultra-professional our 'forward-deployed' USMC company-strong security unit was, I'm trying to imagine 'our' guys reaction if they saw things similar to what you did. I believe that they would tell us (USN) nothing and just keep it to themselves. As we had no access to USMC logs, none would be the wiser... (I'm sure the CO/XO could have gotten them but doubt they would review them without cause).

If you could please recount for us your first experience seeing a UFO? Were you on guard detail? Alone, or with another?

Also, please tell us of the 'scuttlebutt' in the barracks, base club, etc., amongst the marines about what they thought it was?

Also, could you speak of it openly? Or, was it primarily among same-ranked 'shipmates'? For example, if 'Gunny' overheard you talking about it, were you told to shut up?

Most importantly, I'm sure we'd very much like to hear about your 'encounter' and your visit by Naval Intel/NIS and, if you were given an "Oath of Secrecy"?

Thanks in advance; forgive the interrogation.

    Hi Roger,
This is Bob, the Marine who reported the UFO's over and around Gitmo Cuba in 1968-69. As of today I am a new member and very happy to have been able to join this group of believer. When I first arrived at Guantanamo Bay Cuba and saw my first UFO, I was in disbelief. Old salts that had been there for awhile must have thought I was nuts by the way I was acting and pointing this UFO. It was no big deal to them as it was an every day occurrence that most Navy and Marine personnel had grown accustom to. Even so, every Post had a Log Book and we posted everything unusual or not, including UFO sightings.
I would be more than happy to answer any questions regarding my experiences with these UFO's while I was stationed at Gitmo Bay Cuba.
    Thanks, Bob

    Hi Bob
So glad to have you here.
Any chance you could tell us what occurred when you were stationed in Cuba?
Any ideas as to why they were so frequent in that area?
