    Space Observatory Mysteriously LOCKED DOWN

National Solar Observatory Mysteriously Closed For Security Reasons

When you walk up to a restaurant door and a sign on it says the place was shut down by the government, you probably suspect there was a health problem and are grateful for the implied warning. What would you think if you walked up to the National Solar Observatory in Sunspot (yep, that’s the town’s real name), New Mexico, and saw a similar sign that the place had been shut down for “security reasons”? Would you be more concerned of you knew it had been closed for a week with no explanation? How about if you found out the nearby post office (the “neither rain nor sleet nor gloom of night” people) was closed for the same reason?

. . . Local ABC station KVIA reported the September 6th shutdown of the observatory on the following day after the above statement was given by Shari Lifson, a spokesperson for the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) which operates the facility. As of this writing, KVIA reports there has been no additional information released despite requests by Otero County Sheriff Benny House, who gave his own report to the Alamogordo Daily News:

It turns out, hardly anything of this is actually true.

Yes, in NM a solar observatory and an office of the US Postal Services were temporarily shut down, but NO OTHER OBSERVATORIES WERE SHUT DOWN
AND EVERYTHING IS STILL ACCESSIBLE ONLINE.

As our good friends at Suspicious 0bservers, rightfully point out.

This is from the article on earthsky.org

Everyone loves a good mystery, and there is a very curious one happening in New Mexico right now. On Thursday, September 6, the Sunspot Solar Observatory in Sunspot, New Mexico, as well as a nearby United States Postal Service Office (USPS), was suddenly closed down and evacuated. This was reported to be for “security reasons,” but no details were provided, and still haven’t been at the time of this writing. Sunspot is located on Sacramento Peak – Lincoln National Forest specifically, in Otero County.
You can read more here http://earthsky.org/human-world/why-...-nm-closed-fbi

If you click on the link in the above quote for the observatory, it will take you to their website where they explain that they have evacuated and are closed.

The article that I'm seeing pop up the most on social media is the one in the Washington Post

This article suggests that it might have been closed due to a possibility of espionage.

What is interesting to note here is that the article points out that the telescope has an unobstructed view of Holloman Air Force Base. That might be what started the UFO rumors.

Of course, people will be bringing video cameras up there. This one is pretty good.

The video they found in a trash can is actually a video game. Here is the Wiki article for The X-Files: Unrestricted Access
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_...tricted_Access

Of course, the door was unlocked, so even the person making this video could have stuck the game into that trash can.

It looks like Russia Today (RT), is fueling the fire for the Alien theories.

RT is run by and controlled by the Kremlin. I don't trust what they say.

So it is still a mystery.

The possibility of espionage sounds most likely given the local.

It will be very interesting when the re-opening takes place, as to how this will spin . . .!

    Press release:
The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) released the following statement on their website:

"Sunspot Solar Observatory is transitioning back to regular operations as of September 17th

On September 6th, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) made the decision to temporarily vacate the Sunspot Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico as a precautionary measure while addressing a security issue. The facility closed down in an orderly fashion and is now re-opening. The residents that vacated their homes will be returning to the site, and all employees will return to work this week.

AURA has been cooperating with an on-going law enforcement investigation of criminal activity that occurred at Sacramento Peak. During this time, we became concerned that a suspect in the investigation potentially posed a threat to the safety of local staff and residents. For this reason, AURA temporarily vacated the facility and ceased science activities at this location.

The decision to vacate was based on the logistical challenges associated with protecting personnel at such a remote location, and the need for expeditious response to the potential threat. AURA determined that moving the small number of on-site staff and residents off the mountain was the most prudent and effective action to ensure their safety.

In light of recent developments in the investigation, we have determined there is no risk to staff, and Sunspot Solar Observatory is transitioning back to regular operations as of September 17th. Given the significant amount of publicity the temporary closure has generated, and the consequent expectation of an unusual number of visitors to the site, we are temporarily engaging a security service while the facility returns to a normal working environment.

We recognize that the lack of communications while the facility was vacated was concerning and frustrating for some. However, our desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take."
