SNOWDEN
While I wish this was a SciFi fantasy movie (NOT), this Oliver Stone directed biopic of Ed Snowden was released on DVD last week. Weird; released the day AFTER Christmas (strange marketing strategy).
Thoughtful commentary on runaway big government, and the difficulties faced by whistleblowers in an age where national security seems to Trump individual ethics.
I recommend.

Is The Expanse any good?
I started watching the pilot when it came out and stopped after 20 minutes because literally nothing had happened. It was 20 minutes of one character walking around.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

The Expanse.
Rather large over arching SciFi themes. On the scale of Babylon 5.
First episodes were a bit slow due to establishing the back drop.
Also, LARGE cast. As with other shows (Walking Dead, etc.), You don't see all cast members every episode/week.
Main players.
The Earth: In the distant future as run down, depleted, but still a force in the solar system.
Mars: An independent colony, very militant in structure.
Belters: Miners who live a rag tag existence in the Asteroid belt. Supplying ore to both Earth and Mars, but lack political presence.
Unhappy about this they employ t3rr0rist tactics for political gain.
Complex story lines. Good FX/CGI.
And IMHO the actors are doing a good job so far. There are some interesting, well developed characters.
Worth the watch.

Beyond series aired recently on "Freeform", and renewed for a second season.
I binged the series in January and thought it was decent.

I haven't watched The Expanse yet but I have Beyond and found it very entertaining. Thanks for the tip on Freeform and will check that out.

So many discussions these days on the reality (or not) as whether camouflaged or so-called "shape shifting" aliens have been able to insert themselves into our social fabric, possibly in all stations from executors to monarchs.
How much of this is being "drip dripped" into our consciousness is hard to tell. But the "movie screen" has always played a big roll in "floating the drift" as they say, and I suspect this trend will continue as the years go by.
In the movie "Miss Peregrines's Home for Peculiar Children" (a bizarre story directed Tim Burton towards the youthful mind) we see a glimpse of a subtle message, as the star of film, Asa Butterfield looks on in petrified belief as to the reality of the dreaded Shape Shifter!

My wife and I watched this rather excellent "older" movie last night - INTRUDERS 1992 with Richard Crenna and though I vaguely remember watching it over 25 years ago, this one particular scene at the very end would be difficult to shoot in this day and age as I think it gets a tad too close to the truth.
A great scent nevertheless!
(Note: Catch the "black and white" chequered floor and its esoteric overtones!)
Here's the clip...
