A related phenomenon much more down-to-earth is "earthquake lights." These look like the aurora borealis (not sure if they could be perceived as green from an angle) and are said to last anywhere from a few seconds to ten minutes. Such lights have been reported to occur during, but also before and after earthquakes. See this wikipedia article for more explanation and a picture.
It looked absolutely nothing like the earthquake lights in that picture.

Look at this link, it appears to have an "Up-Tic" in quakes (USA) around the 1980s and another around 2002.

    http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...historical.php

This one shows about the same 1980s to 2009 (3 charts)

    Thanks Epo!

I'm referring to the chart on this page of the USGS site: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquak...ar/eqstats.php

Let's first look at the 6.0-6.9 EQ that occurred worldwide between 2000 and 2012.
    1) The year 2012 has the lowest number of EQ's for that time period.

    2) The year 2012 was tied with 2008 as having the second lowest number of earthquakes in the 7.0-7.9 mag. range.

    3) 2007 is recorded as having the highest number of EQ's between the 8.0-8.9 mag. range which was 4.
2012 was tied with 2006 and 2004 at 2 EQ's in that range; the rest are recorded as having only 1 EQ a year in that range which includes 2011.

If anything, it looks like there has been a decrease in the number of EQ's worldwide in those ranges cited in #1 and #2, not an increase as what seems to be reported all the time on the internet and in You Tube video's on world catastrophic events, EQ's included.

On the other hand in the United States, 2012 had 5 earthquakes in the 6.0-6.9 mag. range whereas 2011 had 3. So that number went up.

However, when looking at all of the data in those charts on those links you gave us, it does seem like there has not only been an increase in EQ's worldwide since the 1980's but there has also been an increase in the number of EQ fatalities too. But I need to look that over again just to see if that's right. I'm just saying that there does seem to be an increase in those numbers at least at first glance.

So the question is, why are there more injuries and fatalities now in EQ's than there were before? The following is a quote from Prison Planet that answers that question.

The population at risk is increasing. While the number of large earthquakes is fairly constant, population density in earthquake-prone areas is constantly increasing. In some countries, the new construction that comes with population growth has better earthquake resistance; but in many it does not. So we are now seeing increasing casualties from the same sized earthquakes.
    http://www.prisonplanet.com/no-there...an-normal.html

So as the population of the world increases, there will be more injuries and fatalities due to EQ's.

Also, as I researched more on this, I have found that there is not necessarily a confirmatory parallel between the number of deaths and the magnitudes of EQ's.

This is because even moderate EQ's in undeveloped high pop. density regions that do not have any EQ building codes in place, there have been a staggering number of casualties than what occurs in equally populated regions that are hit with EQ's of much higher magnitudes that have compulsory EQ building codes enforced.
