Ancient aliens left them there, I can tell it from the pixels.;) Is such a thing even possible? <dramatic pause> Yes it is.:biggrin2:
On a more serious note, some quick googling turned up that these could be water-absorbing gel crystals. Maybe someone spilled a pack of them and didn't clean up for some reason. See this site:
http://www.squidoo.com/crystal-soil
Water beads are used as a Soil Replacement or additive for house and garden plants, it is a decorative medium for parties, candles, and they can be used as a room freshener. Absorbing Water Bead Crystals are easy to use, just add water. Crystal soil water beads are non-toxic and bio-degradable, and the beads are colorfast. Soil vigor moisture trap polymers make a difference in plant and root health, and are great for flowers in a vase or bowl; near a light source they become more decorative.
Guess there weren't enough news to fill in the schedule?
