WIKILEAKS SPY FILES#3 release

I've been digging through this massive release of files (http://wikileaks.org/spyfiles3)for the past few weeks.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of pages of informational pamphlets for spy equipment designed for law enforcement to conduct surveillance.

Both hardware and software solutions.
Items for intercepting Internet data, cell phone intercepts, portable "drop and leave" voice recorders, etc.

Also Software designed to make sense of giant, unorganized, data collections, like phone call metadata, etc.

A really impressive collection.

FORUM data collection.

There are about a half dozen MP4 videos within the SPY Files#3 release.
One of them has to do with a piece of software designed to comb through posts within forums and detail participants feelings on certain subjects.

The video uses BMW automobiles as an example.
How many people had positive things to say about BMW, how many had negative comments.

There is a very interesting document from what appears to be a marketing agency, but reads more like a think tank. The document is titled "Lawful Interception: A Mounting Challenge For Service Providers and Governments, 2011".

Ethics discussion included gems like: "In countries with no regulation, interception can be used by government to secure power by spying on its citizens, not to prevent crime but to control behavior."

References to the "Greek Watergate" scandal of 2005 are quoted.

All in all an interesting read that covers different medias, like voice intercepts and deep packet inspection (DPI) of data.

The Utimac0 LIM5 (http://lims.utimaco.com/products/lawful-interception-management-system/) system is outlined, and lauded, as a particularly effective Legal Interception device. It performs intercepts, and forwards the info to LEA.

Many hardware solutions product pamphlets are listed as well, some marked for sale to Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) only.
But many are simply designed for use by the Telcom engineers for monitoring and maintenance.
Instead of duplicating and redirecting data streams to devices that measure network health, the data can be copied and forwarded for closer inspection by the authorities.

A 10 GigaBit Fiber Taps (Splitter) is among the items.

It takes years and many people to produce this much information; it doesn't happen overnight. With only this amount of information, we can estimate or get an idea of how much money and time is put into the many other "secret" projects, if we have a big enough imagination. I often wonder about the amount of money the government spends, where it goes and who is involved; it sure isn't arriving in my mailbox. I also wonder about the minds behind these projects and their motives, I can only think that there is another power behind the scenes, because the average human being just does not care.
