They almost certainly did. Imagine the power and temperatures involved. A nuclear explosion is a micro supernova of sorts. The caveat is that it happens to produce far more short lived, radioactive materials that are a hazard to your exploration for the more exotic atomic offspring you are thinking of. In the future of nuclear mining, micro or nanorobots will be able to explore and recover such exotic atoms. I see this in the next ten years.

Crystals grow from base rocks, crystals are responsive to electromagnetic radiation: perhaps the concept of a living Earth is possible. In that case, maybe the increase in temps around the earth is actually the earth having a "temperature" and we are the organisms causing the flu like symptoms. (which is true to an extent)
