For a few years now I have been trying to understand the relationship, if there is any, between religion and ufogy.
I think like all of us here, there is a reason why we search. Are we searching for alien life / UFO's? no, it is beyond that, it is a search for the truth. We, as humans, want to know where we come from, why we are here and what is life really about in the grandest of schemes. Therefor like everyone else, I search, I study, I think, I repeat.
I am catholic and I attend mass almost weekly. My reasons for going have evolved over time. When I was a kid I went because my mom dragged me. When I was a young adult, I went to mass on Christmas and Easter. As I got married and had children, we felt it was important to belong to a community of great people, even though we did not follow the politics of the church. We go to mass because it was a way to spend a good 90 minutes together with your immediate family, sing, visit, and just feel good about yourself when you left.
Along side of all that, I would search for my own meaning of life, this search lead me to think about ghosts, angles, and UFOs.
What I am about to share are the conclusions as of today on what I believe. which is nothing more than an attempt to understand myself instead of trying to make any claims or proclamations. In other words this is my personal belief, and it is that, very personal.
Like most people I believe in a higher power. I call my higher power God.
Also like most people, I believe we are not alone in our universe. The difference in my beliefs vs. some others is that I also believe this intelligent life has been with mankind since the beginning.
I believe what the bible refers to as the Holy Spirit is really nothing more than a visitor, albeit a very powerful and good visitor, from another galaxy in our universe. Now, I mean no disrespect to the Holy Spirit when I say "nothing more" but what I am implying is even a power greater beyond that ...so far out in fact we cannot even comprehend its existence because we as humans have yet to evolve that far.
I am currently studying the Gospel of Mark...
For me, when I read the bible, if I substitute, everything I know about Ufology, alien abduction, ect.. everytime the bible mentions the Holy Spirit, the stories actually begin to make sense. I am talking logic sense. Scientific sense to a point I can actually say to myself, I can see how that could happen.
I will just give you one example at this time, the story about the birth of Jesus.
Following Joseph and Mary's betrothal in the book of Matthew 1:18, Joseph is troubled because Mary is pregnant. However, in the first of Joseph's three dreams an angel assures him not be afraid to take Mary as his wife, because her child was conceived by the Holy Spirit"
This story, in my opinion is almost identical to stories I have heard from people who claim they have been abducted by some sort of alien presence.
I try to understand that the bible was written to an audience with nowhere the intellect that we currently hold as humans of our generation.
So a question I would ask…. If Jesus was a hybrid alien… would that change a persons view of Jesus?
Mark 13:24
“But in those days after that tribulation
the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light,
and the stars will be falling from the sky,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
And then they will see ‘the Son of Man coming in the clouds’
with great power and glory,
and then he will send out the angels and
gather elect from the four winds,
from the end of the earth to the end of the sky.
Talks about Jesus descending from the clouds.
So powerful in fact, Michelangelo is so inspired brilliantly in the Sistine Chapel, from one end of the room to the other in the altar wall along with the frescoes on the side walls, in his magnificent “Last Judgment.” In this we see Christ coming in the clouds, gathering the angels and the elect, while casting the condemned to hell. We also see the angels and the elect trying to lift up those struggling toward salvation, while demons try to pull others into damnation. The cross and the scourging pillar are discarded, as Christ has fulfilled the Scriptures in this last day of judgment.
It is a beautiful painting, painted at a time when the concept of aviation was a dream let alone something traveling at the speed of light. So for centuries this is the image we had of Jesus and God, some "old guy" floating on a cloud.
I personally have an easier time believing Jesus came from another part of our universe more than I can believe an old grey breaded man floating in a cloud. But if you think about it, if you were writing the bible, how would you describe to mankind before the knowledge of airflight, ufo’s? you would describe it exactly as they did… ‘the Son of Man coming in the clouds’
