I've come to conclusion, many years ago already, that engineers and physicists (like astronomers) are usually the least qualified to deal with this kind of stuff because of their cognitive biases. They expect reality to conform to their vision of it and cannot handle anything that does not.

In the latest episode when they drilled into the mesa and ran into something that they couldn't get through it was quite disappointing that they did not run a snake camera through the drill hole after pulling the bit out.
