Thread: Windows 10 Upgrade

Today's patches installed without a glitch, but they TAKE LONG.

On my two fastest machine (I5, new HDU, recently installed - up-to-date - windows) it took half an hour. to 45 minutes.

Ironically, on my 14-year-old Celeron laptop, it took about 15 minutes.

My patches are in progress, I was getting worried until I saw this post! My Dell is usually pretty fast thought.

Today's patches installed without a glitch on two computers and a minor glitch on the two Acer laptops: rather than rebooting, when it did the usual 'restarting' after 30%, it switched them off instead of restarting. (So, I had to push the power button for them to boot up and continue).
The whole thing took about 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the computer.

I would strongly recommend delaying today's patches. It took about half an hour on one computer but screwed up my Acer laptop.

And if that wasn't bad enough in itself, it started downloading Windows 11 without asking for permission to do so.

Edit to add, and installed it too...
Apparently, it only allows you to postpone 3 times.

Today's patches required two reboots. The whole process took about 40 minutes on average.

By now, Microsoft has decided that two of my computers could no longer wait to run Win 11. So, two of my machines run Win11, two run Win10.

On one Win11 machine everything went without a glitch. The reboot took between 15 & 20 minutes.
Similar scenario on the second Win11 machine, but it warned afterwards that it had been unable to install one update.
On this machine, while it was installing a patch in the background, the desktop icons became non-responsive. (It sometimes happens during these updates).

On the two win10 machines, the reboot took more than half an hour!

Two patches today, and a reboot is needed after each.
    - the Win 11 machines took about 10 to 15 minutes for each reboot, i.e. about 25 minutes
    - the Win 10 machines took about 45 minutes for the entire process.

I noticed Win11 already suggests to reboot as soon as the first of the two patches was installed, i.e., before both were installed.

Today's patches took about 30 to 40 minutes, even though on one machine it already said "100% complete" after 15 minutes, and then waited another 25 to show the login screen.

The 13 Sept. 2023 patches are unpredictable. On one machine they installed within 10 minutes, on another it took them MORE THAN AN HOUR.

Update: and on the last machine, it took 2.5 hours.

    Both ACER laptops took ages.

Today, everything went smoothly: 10 to 20 minutes depending on the machine.
